BACinema: All is True ~ January 8th at 7:30 p.m.

Need to remind the general public of the enduring importance of western society’s foundational poet and playwright? Quick, flash the Kenneth Branagh signal! And be sure to signal some of the best living English actors, too. The result is All Is True, a recent biopic of William Shakespeare both directed by and starring Branagh himself. Judi Dench and Ian McKellen co-star in this story of an aging Shakespeare’s return to his hometown after his beloved theater burns to the ground in a catastrophic accident. With this most recent addition to the Shakespeare movie canon we have a character study raising metaphysical questions about old age and artistic pain as much as it is a ravishing costume drama. Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St.

Larry Gray & John Moulder at Beverly Givins Castly ~ January 11th at 7 p.m.

Jazz-Lovers Take NOTE! Chicagoan Larry Gray has been holding groups together for decades, serving as the city’s first-call bassist for visiting heavies—he’s practically a fixture at the Jazz Showcase, playing with a virtual roll call of jazz greats—and quietly leading his own elegant projects with an impressive mixture of muscle and grace. Tickets are $27.50, proceeds benefit the Castle Restoration Fund. Givins Castle, 10255 S Seeley Ave

BAC: Heartsfield – Rockin’ the Country ~ January 11th at 8 p.m.

Heartsfield has toured the United States in each decade since the 1970s, having performed before nearly 10,000,000 fans at 4,500 shows at colleges and universities, fairs and festivals, clubs and bars, private parties, stadiums, and in the streets. Having released their 12th album, they have sold millions of records and continue to please audiences with their brand of vocal rock music that has its foundations in southern and country rock. Get a taste of these legendary country rockers this January at the BAC! Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St.

BACinema: Loving Vincent ~ January 22nd at 7:30 p.m.

This acclaimed 2017 portrait of Vincent Van Gogh was created by a most fittingly idiosyncratic method; with 65,000 oil paintings painted by more than one hundred artists over a nine-year time span. Each painting comprises a single frame of the movie. This is not simply the world’s first entirely hand-painted feature film; it is one of the most painstaking and meticulous animated efforts in history. Chronicling, in a structure that moves between a year after Van Gogh’s suicide to his final days, the film provides artistic insights in to the mysterious impressionist painter that no museum tour can. Loving Vincent contains adult themes involving mental illness and suicide, as well as some sexual situations and violence. Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St.
